The prestigious honor highlights Block’s outstanding leadership and commitment to athletic excellence. According to the MHSCA, award candidates are nominated by their sport associations and evaluated on criteria including long-term program performance, leadership, and positive contributions to athletics and the community. "The selection of Coach Block reflects the high standard of excellence maintained by Chelsea Schools and the broader community," the association stated. Coach Block will be formally honored alongside 28 other distinguished coaches and athletic directors at the annual MHSCA State Awards Luncheon. The event will take place on Sunday, November 8, 2026, at the Great Hall Banquet & Convention Center in Midland, Michigan. The MHSCA, a 71-year-old organization representing nearly 25,000 coaches and athletic administrators across the state, aims to promote educational values through interscholastic athletics.
