CHELSEA, MI - The Chelsea Bulldogs opened SEC White division play with an emphatic statement, dismantling the Jackson Vikings 56–27 behind an explosive, seven-touchdown first half. With the win, Chelsea improved to 2–0 overall and 1–0 in conference action. The Bulldogs wasted no time seizing control. Chelsea struck early in the opening quarter when quarterback Jax Ichesco connected with his brother, Gibby Ichesco, on a 24-yard touchdown pass. Moments later, defensive back Nolan Sciackitano intercepted a Jackson pass to set up another scoring drive. Jax Ichesco capitalized with 6:26 left in the first, scrambling into the end zone from 10 yards out to push the lead to 14–0. Chelsea quickly regained possession and dialed up the big play once more. Jax Ichesco found Josh Stephens on a 65-yard bomb downfield, setting up a 14-yard touchdown run by Gibby Ichesco to make it 21–0. Jackson finally answered late in the quarter with a touchdown, but the momentum shifted right back on the ensuing play: Nick Schultz took the kickoff 74 yards to the house, sending Chelsea into the second quarter holding a commanding 28–7 advantage. The onslaught continued in the second frame. Parker Clarke notched his first touchdown of the season on a 3-yard plunge to widen the margin to 35–7. Just under two minutes later, with 10:07 left in the half, Stephens hauled in a 16-yard touchdown pass from Jax Ichesco to make it 42–7. Avrion Barnes-Gnass added his first score of the year on a 7-yard run, sending the Bulldogs into halftime with a stunning 49–7 cushion. With a running clock throughout the second half, Chelsea turned the game over to its junior varsity unit, giving the younger Bulldogs valuable varsity game experience under the Friday night lights. Sam Kneffel capped the scoring in the fourth quarter, putting the finishing touches on the 56–27 victory. Coaches and Players React Head coach Noel Dean praised his offense's sharpness out of the gate: "We were really efficient when we were playing our ones and twos. You know, it just got a little sloppy when our JV were out there, but I guess that's to be expected. I think we scored seven straight touchdowns with our first two groups." Looking ahead to next week's matchup at Adrian, Dean emphasized discipline: "We just need to stay the course and keep it one game at a time." Senior Gibby Ichesco echoed that focus, noting the team avoided any letdown following their emotional Week 1 upset: "We didn't let the big, crazy upset win from last week affect who we are. We came out, we played, and showed that we can keep going, and we're going to keep getting better and better. [Adrian is] hunting our heads right now, so we have to come to practice this next week, keep watching film, and just keep grinding it out and be ready for it. We can't take them lightly at all." Defensive coordinator Tyler Santoro was equally pleased with his unit's intensity from the opening whistle: "I was proud of our guys for playing with full effort from the very beginning. It was a full team effort just like last week, which I was really proud to see. I was hoping we weren't going to have a little bit of a letdown after the excitement of last week, so I was really proud of our guys for that. And then I was excited for some of the younger guys to get an opportunity to play in a varsity game under the lights." Santoro is eager for the defensive challenge awaiting them at Maple Stadium: "I think it'll be a really big test for us. I know they feel good, and we also feel good going into this game. I'm just excited. It's always a cool atmosphere at Maple Stadium—I think it's one of the coolest environments in the SEC. So I'm looking for the opportunity to play a great team in our league and hopefully get another win."
