Redemption at its Finest: Chelsea Stuns #2 Lansing Sexton to Claim Regional Crown

One year ago, the Chelsea Bulldogs left the court in stunned silence, victims of a miracle three-quarter-court heave that snatched a regional title from their grasp. On Wednesday night, the Bulldogs proved that while history may repeat itself, it can also be rewritten. In a gritty, defensive masterclass, Chelsea (21-6) exacted the ultimate revenge, toppling the state’s #2 ranked team, Lansing Sexton, with a 51-45 victory to claim the MHSAA Division 2 Regional Championship. --- A Back-and-Forth Battle The energy was electric from the opening tip. Chelsea came out with a point to prove, stifling the high-powered Sexton offense early to jump out to a 13-8 lead after the first quarter. However, the Big Reds didn't earn their #2 ranking by accident. Sexton found their rhythm in the second frame, surging back with an offensive burst that shifted the momentum. By the time both teams headed to the locker room, Sexton held a narrow 27-24 lead. The third quarter was a heavyweight bout. Every time Chelsea threatened to regain the lead, Sexton had an answer. The two squads traded blows in a physical ten minutes of play, with the Big Reds maintaining a 38-34 advantage heading into the final period. The Fourth Quarter Lockdown With their season on the line and memories of last year’s heartbreak looming, the Bulldogs' defense turned into a literal brick wall. Chelsea’s defensive rotations were flawless in the fourth quarter, holding a prolific Sexton team to just 7 points in the final eight minutes. Offensively, the Bulldogs stayed poised, chipping away at the lead and ultimately surging ahead to secure the six-point victory. "Last year was a scar, but tonight was the cure," said one local fan. "To beat the #2 team in the state after what happened last year... you couldn't write a better script." --- The Road to the Breslin: Quarterfinals Ahead With the Regional trophy safely in the case, the Bulldogs now turn their attention to the MHSAA State Quarterfinals. It will not get any easier as Chelsea will face off against the number 1 team in division 2, Summit Academy as they look to keep this magical run alive. The stakes couldn't be higher, and the Bulldogs have earned the right to play on their home floor one more time. | Matchup | Date | Time | Location | Chelsea vs. Summit Academy | Tuesday, March 10 | 7:00 PM | Chelsea High School | --- Pack the Gym!
